Careful with the £99 offer, to extend the bonus weeks you purchased some time ago!

The past weeks we are receiving a lot of inquiries from consumers who have been approached by the different Fly Buy companies.

Although it seems there are several companies calling actively, they all seem to have the same “sales pitch” in common.

The call is based on the fact that the consumer has purchased a package of promotional weeks and sometimes even flights a couple of years ago from the same company.

This promotional package is now due to expire.

In order to not lose out, the consumer is offered to extend the validation of the package for another payment of £99

Worrying factor here is that most of the consumers do not recall at all having purchased bonus weeks and flight before!

So an apparent “courtesy call” to an existing customer, could actually be a cold call.

With the “doubt” created by the agent, a lot of consumers decide to pay the £99 so they won’t lose the money they paid before…

Once they pay and receive the confirmation by email they all of the sudden realize that this is a receipt for a promotional holiday which has strict terms and conditions for bookings.

Some of the companies calling do not even provide the terms and conditions in the confirmation email and the consumer is expected to look for them on the website. Which would be ok as it wasn’t for the fact that some of the websites are “under construction” and coming soon!

When trying to cancel the payment for this supposed extension, the consumer is being told that unfortunately they cannot cancel.

Worse of all is that although credit card payments are covered by the Consumer Act, claims under this act are only for amounts between £100 – £30.000

So that leaves the £99 payment just £1 below the minimum to claim.

If the above story sounds familiar to you because you have received such call, please let us know.

Please always be careful with offers that need to be paid there and then without having time to do a proper research. If you have any doubts about any company calling you and making offers, then just check with us. That’s what we are here for.

The decision is yours always, but doing your homework is always recommendable.

I received a call last week same as the person above they kept saying I would lose this holiday if I did not pay £99 I got so upset I said if I pay this is this the end of this they said yes so I paid it I then received a receipt asking me to see that all was correct and send the bottom bit back which I have not done This was from Travel online world.. Today I have just received a call from Holiday Direct exactly the same that I bought this holiday had not used it I would have to pay £99 to keep it open I said I have already paid this money she said not to us I argued with her and she promised me that it was not her company so I would have to pay I said no as I had already done so. This is upsetting I no I am 80 and something’s forget but U know I did not do this and have no papers in my house from these companies. she said she will call back. I do not know what to do Both calls were different number but were from Alicante

Thank you for this email. Both last week and this week I have had calls from
Travel Holiday Online saying that in 2013 I purchased some holiday weeks. There
was a £125 pa fee which was waived but now needs to be paid on 1st March
together with the fee for the coming year. If I want to cancel I can pay £99 in
lieu and no further action will be taken.

I have refused to take any action and have been scouring my bank and credit card
statements in 2013 to see what payment details they might have. I have found an
investment in Resort Care Europe in January 2013 which seems to correspond,
although I had applied to get my investment returned which they refused to do.

I have received such a call this morning from Travel Online World. The person sounded so plausable….. and my husband and I are so exhausted and in need of a holiday but can’t afford one at the moment. Additionally, in the past I’ve paid so much to these lying companies but really thought this one was genuine.
Having read your website I feel now that it was yet another s**** because it was exactly as you have described. I really feel the government should do something about them. I also take some responsibility for being fooled again but they caught me off guard and sounded so accommodating, knowledgeable and reasonable. So still left with no holiday and we’re £99.00 worse off, thus adding to our problems. I wish I had read this before giving them my card details.
